
Bernard Mair
Dr. Bernard Mair is the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer, and the Acting Vice President for the Office for Historically Black Universities (HBCU) Affairs at the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU). He serves as the principal organizer and coordinator of the activities of the Council on Academic Affairs consisting of the provosts of APLU member institutions, the Committee on Faculty Affairs (the associate and vice provosts for faculty affairs), and the Council of 1890 Universities (the presidents and chancellors of the 1890 land-grant universities). He also works closely with the association’s governmental affairs staff to assist in advocacy for federal policies that help strengthen the work of public universities. He has over thirty years’ experience in faculty and administrative leadership roles at several universities, but mostly at the University of Florida where he was a tenured full professor in Mathematics and served as Associate Chair for the Department of Mathematics, Associate Dean for the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Associate Provost for Undergraduate Affairs. He was also Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Howard University.
